It is understandable. Seeing a quote for ₦2.5M, ₦4M, or ₦20M is a shock to the system. It feels like a luxury purchase like buying a new car, especially with other bills waiting to be attended to.

But here is the truth that wealthy people and people in Finance understand: There is a difference between "Cost" and "Price."

Let's do the analysis of the two scenarios:

🔴 Scenario 1: The "Cheap" Option (Generator)

You buy a generator for ₦300k. Cheap, right?

But then you pay a "subscription fee" of ₦109k+ every month for fuel and maintenance.

Year 1 Cost: ₦1.3 Million+

Year 3 Cost: ₦4 Million

Year 5 Cost: ₦6.5 Million+

Year 10 Cost: ₦13 Million+

Asset Value after 10 years: ₦0 (It's scrap metal).

🟢 Scenario B: The "Expensive" Option (Solar)

You buy a system for ₦4 Million. Expensive, right?

Year 1 Cost: ₦4 Million (Upfront).

Year 3 Cost: ₦4 Million (Still the same).

Year 10 Cost: ₦5.5 Million (Maybe battery change).

Asset Value: You still have free power.

The "I Rent vs. I Own" Analogy.

Running a generator is like living in a shortlet apartment. You pay every night, weekly or pay as you go. If you stop paying, they kick you out (the lights go off).

Installing solar is like building your own house. You pay a lot upfront to build it, but then you live there rent-free for decades.

Solar isn't an expense. It is a pre-payment for 10-20 years of electricity.
